Ann Balasubramaniam

Ann Balasubramaniam is completing her PhD in Arctic freshwater eco-hydrology. She is interested in understanding linkages between climate, hydrology and the aquatic ecology of lakes in permafrost landscapes. The majority of her research has taken place in the Old Crow Flats, Yukon Territory where she worked with the local First Nation, Parks Canada and researchers from across Canada to assess the impacts of hydrological change on water chemistry and algae.

BevingtonLeah Beveridge

Leah is a research assistant at Dalhousie University for the Maritime Activity and Risk Investigation Network. She is currently working on a project titled PASSAGES – Protection and Advanced Surveillance System for the Arctic: Green, Safe, Secure.KBrown pic Her role in the project is to study the environmental, social, and cultural impacts of current and future vessel traffic in the Canadian Arctic, particularly by applying the outcomes of traffic projection models and risk analyses.

Leah completed her B.Sc. in Biology and Aquatic Resources at St. Francis Xavier University and she received her Masters’ in Marine Management from Dalhousie University. Throughout her undergraduate degree she worked as a research assistant studying coastal ecology of Nova Scotia. It wasn’t until her time at Dalhousie that she began studying the Arctic; her graduate project focused on creating a method for assessing coastal vulnerabilities to climate change within Arctic communities.

Alexandre Bevington

Theoretically I am a master’s student at the University of Ottawa, however I have gone to Whitehorse on an informal year-long exchange for the 2013-2014 winter! The upside: The Yukon is spectacular and I get to work with the fine folks at the Yukon Research Centre! The downside: I am far from the family and there are no 24h restaurants!
